Deconstructing OUR Amareica
This project is literally a student based project. We were asked to study a modern controversial topic, and write an op-ed article in order to voice the rhetoric of our generation. I decided to write mine on abortion and how it can affect future foals and how it does affect ponies now, even with the opportunity of allowing mares to get an abortion. Afterwards, we had to take that argument and put it into an oral project, which I decided to do as a poem letting the voices of the foster care foals come out to light.
I actually learned that Americans are pretty clueless when it comes to emotions of the ponies they are trying to 'save'. Many ponies are subjected to pain and neglect either by the pro-life ponies, or by their own parents (foster or biological). This can create deep rooted mental pain that will haunt ponies for years after the experience.
Personally, as a young mare in modern Amareica, I feel like it is a right that I can put my body through whatever I wish to put it through. It's the same with allowing myself to not go through that pain if it will put me in danger. It is also a right of mine to allow or disallow a foal to come into the world depending on financial or mental needs. And it was interesting to see how many ponies are so pro-life in our country, using the argument "Give the foal up for adoption" as a mane point.
The most challenging part of this project was actually the op-ed. I do not have a strong point of writing news articles, no matter how much I may study up on how to write them or how much effort I may put into it. But I would definitely try to make more time for me to edit more on the paper. Since I was working a lot on other projects, I kept forgetting to go back and edit it, thus causing me to not have the best work possible.
I discovered that foster care is a lot worse than you would think. Most ponies sit back and don't think of the kids in that system because they aren't willing to take anypony into their homes. Meaning that the argument that ponies should just give the foals up for adoption instead of aborting them is utterly ridiculous.

Wounded Knee Inquiry
We recently read and analyzed several documents pertaining to the Massacre of Wounded Knee, taking notes on the documents and writing a textbook excerpt for the slaughter. The notes on the documents are here and the excerpt here. Afterwards we watched a movie on it, called Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee (also a fantastic book), and wrote an analysis on it. Which can be found here.
The Wounded Knee massacre was a tragedy. It was in December 1890, on a cool day. The native men were pushed into a group away from women and children in their encampment and forced to give up their weaponry. One young man refused to do so and fired stupidly towards the soldiers who fired in return, killing every man in a 10 foot radius around the young man who shot first. The rest of the men scattered, and of course so did the women and children. The men were hunted down first by the soldiers, then the women and children, who were completely innocent in this situation. The soldiers killed almost everyone in the encampment.
